about me below ⬇️
I'm Tate, a dedicated tutor at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College with a passion for empowering individuals through counseling. My current role extends far beyond academics; I practice active listening, build rapport, and provide emotional and time management support – skills directly transferable to counseling. This experience involves guiding students through challenges and collaboratively developing solutions, which I am expanding upon to bring to my future counseling internship with the theories and techniques I am learning and implementing through WKU's Counseling Program.
I demonstrate my commitment to advocacy through extensive volunteer work, serving as a Case Manager's Assistant at the International Center of Kentucky, advocating for survivors on the crisis line and in hospitals with Hope Harbor, and teaching advanced English classes at Refuge Bowling Green. This background equips me with a deep understanding of the social and political factors that impact well-being, as well as the importance of navigating boundaries, trauma, and systemic obstacles.
My core aspiration is liberation – helping individuals unlock their potential and overcome barriers to live fulfilling lives. I believe counseling is inherently linked to finding meaning and purpose, and I'm driven to support others in navigating these crucial existential questions, particularly those struggling to reconcile passion with practicality, just as I once did. I am now actively pursuing opportunities to apply these skills and perspectives as a Counseling Intern.
